Leicestershire Schutzhund Club, an introduction

I have been involved in Schutzhund for around 8 years as a member of the Malvern and Worcester club until its demise. I have not been a member of a Schutzhund club since, but started offering Schutzhund training as a private individual and attracted several members. I then bred a litter of German shepherds and was fortunate to have a litter of puppies which have so far proved suitable for the sport. Again I was fortunate in being able to encourage the new owners of these puppies to try Schutzhund and we have made good progress. Everyone we have introduced to the sport is really enjoying it.

Our membership rose to a healthy 10 members, all of whom are new to the sport, several have expressed a desire to compete. I also want to compete and to do so we needed to join a Schutzhund club. We looked at the BAGSD and the GSDL-WDG to see who offered the best chance of success so we approached the GSDL-WDG. Our inititial contacts and conversations found members very helpful and encouraging and we were given all the information and help we needed and subsequently became members of White Rose Schutzhund Club.

We followed this up with our request to form our own club in Leicestershire and again the information, help and advice was excellent. Subsequently Leicestershire Schutzhund Club was formed and our thanks go to everyone who has helped us, your assistance has been and will continue to be invaluable. Following the completion of our six month probationary period, under the mentorship of Richard James, it is our intention to hold a club trial and we would like take this opportunity to invite all who read this to come and visit us, you don't have to wait for the trial to visit! It is also our intention to organise visits to other GSDL-WDG branches and we look forward to meeting you and picking your brains.

We are based just off junction 22 of the M1 at Markfield in Leicestershire, our location and contact details are on our club web site. We have our own tracking field as well as our 2 acre training field and we love training our dogs. It is our aim to continue to grow our membership with people new to the sport and make our club and Schutzhund part of the local community.
