2009 - Committee News - GSDL Recognised Judges
The GSDL (Working Dog Group) would seek to clarify the position with regard to individual’s resident within the United Kingdom
whom it recognise's as Schutzhund/VPG Judges able to officiate at events hosted by member clubs.
The organisation requires that such individuals are approved to officiate in the sport by the WUSV. At the present time,
therefore, this would be Mr Jim Jackson, Mr Gavin Smith, and Mr Richard James of the GSDL. The Organisation also recognise's
Mr Eric Roberts of the BAGSD. It is envisaged that when GSDL apprentice Judges Mrs Henriette Bohnstedt and Mr Dougie Bannerman
complete the required apprenticeship process, and are subsequently approved by the WUSV, they will also join this list.
The rational of this position is this. Prior to 23 January 2008, domestic Judges within the UK had retained only the mandate of the various
controlling bodies (BSA, GSDL and BAGSD) to officiate at Trials in the UK. On the 23 January however, the GSDL hosted a dedicated Judging Seminar
in Manchester by Herr Gunther Diegel, to which all then current Schutzhund /VPG Judges in the UK and Eire were invited. Individuals from the GSDL,
the GSA (Ireland) and The BAGSD elected to attend this event. The outcome was the subsequent recognition of all attending existing Judges as WUSV
approved Judges within the UK/Eire. Apprentice Judges attending were advised to continue undertaking their Judging Apprenticeship, completing the
final one under an SV teaching Judge, in order to also attain recognition. The GSDL has written confirmation of the above.
Prior to 23 January 2008, the GSDL are aware that problems had arisen when members had entered Schutzhund/VPG competitions in other WUSV affiliated
countries. Members had been informed that, as a consequence of a qualification being awarded in the UK by a non WUSV recognised Judge, they would be unable
to compete, or alternatively be required to compete at a lower stake. Whilst it is important to stress that this has not always been the case, the GSDL wishes
to protect the legitimacy of qualifications obtained by its membership; therefore it is right and proper that clarity and transparency are brought to this
matter at this time. It is therefore important to state that non WUSV recognised judges within the sport in the UK will not be recognised by the GSDL to
officiate at GSDL events, and any qualifications issued after the 23rd January 2008 by non WUSV recognised Judges resident in the UK will not be recognised by the GSDL.
